Hey Party People! Me again, Marquee’s Mascot Mr. Q. I just snagged an interview with Marquee resident DJ Blake Jarrell before he hops a plane for his set at Marquee on Friday night. Blake’s a cool kid originally from New Orleans who now resides in Chicago when he’s not on tour with Armin van Buuren or headlining around the globe. So read on to learn more about this rising superstar DJ/producer, plus check out the free Avicii & Guetta vs Kings of Leon “Sex On Sunshine” mashup he just did and sent over when you’re done!
Mr. Q: Where’d the idea/inspiration for the Avicii & Guetta vs Kings of Leon “Sex On Sunshine” mashup come from?
Blake Jarrell: My residency at Marquee has inspired me to make lots of mashups and edits of instrumentals that are more on the underground side with vocals that are more accessible and popular. This, along with my Axwell vs REM “Heart Is My Religion” mashup, are secret weapons born out of that idea.
Are you a big Kings of Leon fan?
Who isn’t?
Good point. So have you played the track at a gig yet and will you play it for us at Marquee if we ask nicely?
I’ve played it at Marquee and a few other places on the road… works surprisingly well.
What other mashups, bootlegs or original tracks should we keep an ear out for from you in the near future?
Working on tons of originals and remixes at the moment. My new vocal original with the very talented singer Michael S will be released on October 4th. I’m working on a remix of the hip-hop act Napalm and also finishing up the new island theme track.
What’s with naming tracks after locations and when will you name one after Vegas?
Thinking about it
Any other bands you wanted to remix, but it just didn’t work out in the studio?
Tons, too many to name. I really wish I would have been properly commissioned to do the Snow Patrol and Anna Nalick remixes I did with the real parts from a while back.
As a Marquee resident DJ, what’s your favorite aspect of the club?
Marquee is not a legendary club because of any one of its single amazing attributes, it’s more about how all those things come together and make for the total experience. There is something very special going on in Las Vegas and the USA right now, and Marquee is the epicenter of that.
When in Vegas and you have some down time, where else do you like to go and hang out if you have the chance?
I’ve visited the Pawn Stars pawn shop (because I’m a History Channel nerd). I like to just walk down the Vegas strip and go shopping or hang by the Marquee Dayclub pool.
Now, as promised, free music!
XOXO,
